Contests Are Back (posted 11:46)

Contests are back! After a period of revision contests have returned. There are some major changes (for full details check the contest help). The contest creation form has been totally revamped, adding more information (and options). Contests now cost money to open, bigger contests cost more, so make sure you price them right to get that money back! Also the size of contest you can enter is restricted by the gym in your cave (except for random contests), so you need to upgrade this to enter better contests. Sadly you can no longer enter your own contests. Finally you can now restrict contest entry by gender.

New Menu items (posted 17:10)

There are now menu items for your Groph Stats page and Bottled Grophs pages on the 'My' menu, so you can get to them directly.

Groph Image Changes (posted 17:20)

As some of you may have noticed, Grophland has been very slow recently. The main reason for this is that we are now using nearly 3Gb of Bandwidth PER DAY (most hosting companies don't provide more than 15Gb per month)! A lot of this is from the many images in the site, which means (sadly) that I am having to cut down on the number of images.

One way of doing this without making the site worse has been to change the way in which Grophs are displayed. Previously they were constructed on screen from many (15+) images all layered together, each of which was downloaded in full. Now they are all put together in one image on the server before they are downloaded, and this image is stored on the server, only changing when something changes about the Groph. This means far less is dowloaded and should make the site as a whole much faster (I hope).

There are downsides though. Some combinations of Groph colour and clothing may cause dithering (spotting) in the final image. I can't avoid this. If you have it and don't like it then switch clothing till if goes away. Another problem is that sometimes your browser may cache the old image of a Groph and show it even after its been updated. If this happens just reload the image (by doing alt-reload, or clicking on the image and choosing reload image from the menu, the method changes from browser to browser.

I do appologise for any problems, but it is all in the interest of making Grophland as a whole faster.

The Announcements forum has now gone away. I was never using it anyway (it predated the news) and it was confusing some people. In its place you will find a new and shiney Breeding forum, as some people asked.
